under this motto we jointly conducted the first Peruvian festival in the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Square on August 14th. Japan has more than 50,000 Peruvian residents, who were also shocked by the events of March 11th.

When many felt they couldn't help because they can't speak the language or because they're simply too busy with work, the Nikkei Youth Network staff Christian Sevallos decided to do a big charity event to support the Tohoku region. Moved by his passion, the Nikkei Youth Network decided to fully cooperate with this event.

Sevalloscalled the Peruvian performers, talked with the Latin media companies, coordinated the booth and staff coordination, and the website.
Nikkei Youth Networkwas in charge of getting the permissions from the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse administration and the city hall, promoting the event on TV and managing the donation booth.

When we first heard of the scale of this event, we were uncertain if we could do it. An event with more than 5,000 visitors in such a big space as the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse was a first for both Sevallos and ourselves, so we didn't know where to start form. However, with the strong support of Nikkei Peruvians living in Japan, volunteer performers, with the cooperation of the Latin American community in Japan we were able to achieve success.

At the event you could find companies that service the South American community in Japan, as well as restaurants serving traditional food, near the entrance the Nikkei Youth Network had a booth for the fundraising activities. The venue costs and other operating costs such as the sound system were all covered by the booth's rentals, while all donations were donated to the ROAD Project of the Nippon Foundation. There was a previous idea of charging for an entrance fee, donating the full ammount. However, we opted for people to make the donation in good faith.

It isn't an amount that will significantly effect the reconstruction but we feel that the 255,097 yen donated, will encourage all those who participated in rethinking their involvement in Japan's future. To all those that cooperated, the students that worked hard all day long as volunteers, everyone who participated, we would like to say a big thank you.
